From the HOD’s Desk:

From 11th century engineers like Al-Jazari& Al-Muradi discovered polymath and  numerous mechanical innovations inventor of the universal astrolabe. Charles Babbage 17th century Creator of the Difference Engine who has discovered the first computer.James Watt, the eminent Scot and great scientist in 17th century, who so improved the imperfect steam engine of his day that he may be termed the Father of the Steam Age and the Founder of Mechanical Engineering, The formation of this partnership between Boulton and Watt proved to be one of the epoch making events in the history of engineering, since it resulted in the foundation of the Soho Foundry and the organization of the first machine shop devoted to mass production business. This involved the training of labourers and tradesmen, the inculcation of modern factory ideas and methods. William George Armstrong, in 18th century discovered Hydraulic power pioneer. So there were many innovations henceforth.

So from 11th century till 21th century Mechanical engineering play a very vital role in day to day life. It has a wide range of applications in all fields staring from a wrist watch to an aeroplane engine.  Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines.Fresh graduates of Mechanical engineering find quite good jobs in Mechanical sectors. They can also get a job in Central Government, State Governments and their sponsored corporations in public enterprises like Shipping, Refrigeration and Air conditioning HVAC systems, Railways, Merchant Navy, Indian Airforce, Indian Navy, Civil Aviation Department, Oil and Refinery, Bharat Electronics Limited and few other government undertakings.

The graduate program you have joined will provide you an excellent opportunity to learn fundamentals of mechanical engineering and undertake a high quality basic as well as applied research in various domains of mechanical engineering. Our Mechanical Department is to be the fountainhead of new ideas and of innovators in technology and science. Our Mechanical Department provokes to create an ambience in which new ideas and creativity flourish and from which research and scholarship and leaders and innovators of tomorrow emerge. It also ensures that the students should be enriched with the core values like Integrity, Merit,Academic Freedom, Excellence, Research, Innovations in Educational Methodologies, External Linkages, ResourceMobilisation. It provides the best possible educational facilities for training bright students for careers in technology and science. Our department also organise short intensive courses, conferences and seminars on current technological developments which will be of benefit to the surrounding community. It also provide research and development consultancy, which will promote contact with and be of service to industries and to government and civic organizations and also organize quality improvement programmes for faculty members from various engineering colleges.
